During the time of the Jesuits the hall was a refectory, later an Assembly Hall used for conferring diplomas
When the university was closed down, the hall held the Museum of Antiquities, and later the Vilnius Public Library
The hall holds a permanent exhibition of early manuscripts and books containing many rare items, for instance by Nocolaus Copernicus
